Craig grew up on the West Coast and spent much of his younger years playing in the bush and mud while learning to fish, hunt, trap, farm and sail yachts. Graduating from Lincoln University with a Bachelor of Agricultural Science degree with honors he spent several years working in Canterbury with a couple of stints to Canada, where he met his wife Pam.
A keen hunter since his youth, Craig has had a long involvement with his local Malvern Branch of the New Zealand Deerstalkers Association (NZDA). His go to place for recreation is the high country of Canterbury and the West Coast and he’s had a long term project to restore the long neglected huts in the Cox and Esk watersheds near Arthur’s Pass.
A member of Permolat, and nominated for the Backcountry Trust by the NZDA his three children are also passionate about the outdoors and have been also involved in the volunteer groups looking after local huts.
He lives near Darfield and since 2001 has operated an agricultural contracting business with his wife Pam.
